Are you trying to plan a wedding, and you’re just so confused with how many ways you can get married? I didn’t even know the differences between a wedding, micro wedding or an elopement for the longest time, so I’m here to break it down for you, don’t you worry!

Traditional wedding

Okay I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say a traditional wedding. Think bridesmaids in fun wedding colors, silly groomsmen, gorgeous wedding venues, big reception, cake cutting and more. Think of what they show in the movies – including the chaos that comes along with a more traditional wedding 😉

If you’re wanting a bridal party, groom party, a wedding specific venue, a larger guest list, a fun bouquet toss – the whole shebang – then a wedding might be perfect for you! This definitely doesn’t mean you have to do everythinggggggg that a traditional wedding might cover, but these are some common wedding characteristics.

Micro wedding

I definitely think micro wedding is a newer term. Think very similar to a traditional wedding, but much smaller in guest count, maybe in your families’ gorgeous ranch style backyard, BYOB, etc. I love this option, because you can have the same feel of a traditional wedding, but if you’re not looking to spend a ton of money, or if you don’t want to wait a whole year (that it commonly can take to plan a larger wedding), this could be a phenomenal option for you!

This couple pictured in this blog post was going to have a traditional wedding in the summer of 2023, but they decided they cannot wait any longer! They definitely wanted to keep some of the traditional things like getting ready, maid of honor, best man, etc, but they had a much smaller guest count, and her husband made the food himself (shoutout to him though like FOR REAL👏🏻). And guess what? They still want to have a big reception with a beautiful wedding dress, but they are saving that for next year! It’s a great way to split up the cost of a wedding and have the best of both worlds.

Elopement

Maybe you don’t love the traditional weddings, and instead you have a vision of going to a beautiful bright blue lake with you, your love, someone who’s ordained, and your photographer?!🤪

Elopements are the best for keeping it low-key, but offering you the flexibility to still go big or go home. If you want to just go to a cute national park with little to no hiking and get married under the trees, elope. If you want to have an amazingly beautiful hike up Mount Rainier and spend the day together, get ready together, get MARRIED, and enjoy the moment with little to no chaos, elope. Your elopement can be so many different things! The biggest thing about eloping is the flexibility in doing whatever the heck you want and the much more intimate vibe it brings to the table (and your photos 😉).

I don’t think I have a preference of one over the other, because you should celebrate your love exactly how you want and no matter what, it’s going to be special🥰
